VentCool Products
Save on the cost of air conditioning by using VentCool™ Whole House Fans and VentCool™ Automated Free Cooling Systems.
What is Free Cooling?
Field Controls offers two types of free cooling systems: VentCool™ Whole House Fans and VentCool™ Automated Free Cooling Systems. A Free Cooling system replaces warm/stale inside air with cool/fresh outdoor air. This typically occurs during the evening and overnight when temperatures outside are cooler. Free cooling is a great way to reduce energy costs, increase fresh air ventilation, and enhance indoor air quality.
Save $$ on Air Conditioning
The benefits of free cooling begin with dramatic energy savings. Free Cooling systems use up to 90% less energy than compressor-based air conditioning units. As the cooler air circulates through the home, it cools the structure and everything in it. With thermal mass cooling, the air conditioning is not needed until later in the day. This translates into less use of the AC system and significant cost savings.
Energy Efficiency Credit
The Department of Energy (DOE) reports that whole house Free Cooling systems are the most cost effective way to cool your home. Many state and local codes provide energy credits, discounts, or other incentives for free cooling systems. VentCool models qualify for California’s Title 24 Energy Credits.
VentCool™ Whole House Fans
Think efficient, quiet, powerful, and simple. VentCool Whole House Fans are ultra-quiet whole house fans that cool naturally by replacing hot indoor air with cool outdoor air. VentCool Whole House Fans use about one tenth the electricity of a typical air conditioner, providing a welcome reduction in utility costs.

How VentCool Whole House Fans Work
The VentCool Whole House Fan system is activated by a wall switch or optional remote control. When the whole house fan is engaged, louvered dampers automatically open to draw cool air in through the home and into attic. Outside air is pulled into the home through open windows and/or doors, and stale warm air is exhausted through the attic vents. VentCool Whole House Fans feature multi-speed, low wattage, Electronically Commutated Motors (ECMs) that move large volumes of air. Fans are installed away from the ceiling opening using insulated, noise dampening flex duct. VentCool Whole House Fans deliver optimum energy efficiency and ultra-quiet operation.
VentCool Automated Free Cooling Systems
Think efficient, secure, automatic and dust free. VentCool Automated Free Cooling Systems (AFCS) integrate with the whole house HVAC fan and ductwork and are designed to bring in fresh air without opening a window or door. Fully automated controls can be monitored and controlled remotely from a PC, smartphone or tablet. The ability to control and maintain the highest quality of indoor air and energy efficiency levels have never been simpler.
Automated Free Cooling
The system monitors indoor and outdoor temperatures and automatically switches from mechanical cooling mode to free cooling mode when temperatures are appropriate. In free cooling mode the air conditioning compressor is not engaged. The central system blower is engaged to draw outdoor air from a properly sized air intake. With no need to open any windows, the system maintains home security and reduces outdoor noise. The outdoor air passes through a high efficiency filter to reduce dust and pollution. Filtered air is then evenly distributed throughout the home using existing ducts and registers. Stale indoor air is exhausted into the attic.

How VentCool AFCS Works
VentCool Automated Free Cooling Systems (AFCS) integrate with the central HVAC system and continually monitors indoor and outdoor temperatures. While in cooling mode, the Outdoor Temperature Sensor confirms that outdoor air is cooler than indoor air. The Smart Thermostat communicates with the IVRC Damper System Controller and turns on free cooling mode. The outside air damper opens and cool outdoor air is pulled in through the intake air vent. The central fan or blower distributes the cool air throughout the home. The Exhaust Damper is open to allow the warm, stale air out of the home and into the attic space. It reduces expensive mechanical cooling costs by using outside air to cool the home when appropriate. VentCool AFCS also filters, purifies, and delivers fresh-clean-pure air directly to every room in the home. Security is paramount as VentCool AFCS does this without the need to leave your window or doors open.
Optional PRO-Cell Upgrade Kit
The Trio PRO-Cell™ upgrade module can be added to the VentCool AFCS to reduce odors, VOCs, airborne germs and mold. The Trio PRO-Cell™ upgrade module uses high intensity UV light and photo reactive oxidation to further purify incoming air.
